Indian Food Diet



Like any type of food, Indian food has its variety of healthy and unhealthy dishes.  One major benefit of Indian food is the amount of spices that are used.  If your stomach is not sensitive to spicy foods, they can help aid in digestion which can lead to weight loss.  Overall an Indian diet can be a very healthy diet.  Below are suggestions of things to eat and enjoy, and things to limit while enjoying Indian food.

Things to eat:
Lean proteins--- There are plenty of lean proteins to look at, both meat(such as Tandoori, lamb and Kebaabs) and vegetarian options.
Lentil-rich foods--- Loaded with vitamins, fiber and protein, lentil dishes are a good choice.
Chana Masala--- A chickpea dish loaded with vitamins, minerals and cooked with healthy spices.
Aloo Gobi--- A potato Cauliflower dish loaded with spices and nutrients, a very good meal item.
Navratan Korma--- A dish filled with vegetables, nuts and seeds.  It is best to be made homemade because many restaurants add half-and-half to make it creamy ruining its positive benefits.

Things to limit:
Naan--- While a good filler, do not overdo the Naan.  Some are better than others (like whole grain), and in general healthier than many forms of bread.  Even so, too many carbs can still be a problem.
Fried Vegetables--- While vegetables are good on their own, frying foods removes many benefits and are not great for you.  It is good to limit the intake of fried vegetables.
Desserts--- Be good, limit desserts.

Another tip.  Limit the size of your plates.  Indian food is delicious, so don't overdo it.  You can have Indian food another day.  You don't have to try every single item on the menu, even if they all look good.
